Seven
Not since Mel Gibson and Danny Glover in all 4 of the Lethal Weapon movies have we been privileged to bear witness to the great interracial police partnership that Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman present in this movie.
Not since Eddie Murphy’s quirky retort to Nick Nolte’s no-nonsense approach to police work have we been allowed to laugh and to live so vicariously through the subjugations of inner city crime fighting.
Not since Eddie Murphy and Judge Reinhold teamed up to provide us with such laughs in Beverly Hills Cop have we seen two on screen interracial police officers spew such witty and ironic dialogue. Such absolute silliness.
Not since Crockett and Tubbs have we seen an interracial police duo battle crime in sunny Miami, Florida as Pitt and Freeman did in this upbeat adventure.
Not since Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones saved the planet from aliens in Men in Black (twice!) have we been so relieved to find an interracial crime fighting team saving the planet from the communists from beyond the stars such as Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman did in this epic motion picture event!
And not since Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson were forced to battle fun loving terrorists in Die Hard 3 have we seen a team so swiftly tackle and subdue the terrorist threat that lurks at an Orange level almost daily!
And of course, we as an audience have not seen such brilliant acting in such a film since the legendary Jean-Claude Van Damme and the infamous Dennis Rodman teamed up in Double Team for what was truly a surprise miss for an Oscar nod on both accounts (I do believe it won the Oscar for best picture however- and rightfully so I might add).
Seven truly delivers all the essential elements of interracial, light hearted, buddy cop films! Jokes, action, good spirits, aliens, model trains and damn fine acting! I have no doubt that this comedic masterpiece, secretly assisted by Mel Brooks (uncredited), will be green lit for a sequel and quite possibly a prequel. And this reviewer can honestly say that he has not looked so forward to the promise of a good time since they announced Top Dog 2, starring Chuck Norris (The Man) and a completely different dog this go around!
Seven is a great, quirky film suitable for just about the whole family! And its anti-racist too which makes it even better!
I have awarded Seven 5 bunnies out of 5!
